In Ancient Chinese philosophy, yin and yang is a concept of dualism, describing how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another. Yin is negative, dark, and feminine, Yang positive, bright, and masculine. Their interaction is thought to maintain the harmony of the universe and to influence everything within it. The different textures in all of these pieces is a symbol that whether you have a male spirit, a female spirit, a dual spirit, there are always different levels in your spirit - different depths of your soul and personality.
